Product description

Dive into the captivating world of Béla Bartók's masterful compositions with this exceptional album, featuring two of his most renowned concertos. Recorded in 1962, this release showcases Bartók's unique blend of classical and neoclassical styles, offering a rich and immersive listening experience.

The album opens with Bartók's Violin Concerto No. 2 in B Major, Sz. 112, a work that exemplifies the composer's innovative approach to form and harmony. The concerto is performed with virtuosity and sensitivity, bringing out the intricate details and rhythmic complexity that Bartók is known for. The three movements—Allegro non troppo, Andante tranquillo, and Allegro molto—each offer a distinct atmosphere, from the energetic and dramatic opening to the serene and introspective middle movement, culminating in a thrilling finale.

Following the violin concerto, the album presents Bartók's Viola Concerto, Sz. 120, completed and orchestrated by Tibor Serly. This concerto is a testament to Bartók's ability to push the boundaries of traditional concertos, featuring a solo viola that soars above a rich orchestral backdrop. The three movements—Moderato, Allegro religioso, and Allegro vivace—are performed with precision and passion, highlighting the unique timbre and expressive range of the viola.

This album is a testament to Bartók's enduring legacy and his influence on the world of classical music. The performances are top-notch, capturing the essence of Bartók's compositions and bringing them to life in a way that is both authentic and engaging. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to Bartók's work, this album offers a rewarding and enriching listening experience.

About Béla Bartók

Béla Bartók, born in 1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, Hungary, was a towering figure in 20th-century music, renowned as a composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. His deep connection to Hungarian and Central European folk music infused his compositions with a unique and captivating flavor, making him one of Hungary's greatest composers alongside Franz Liszt. Bartók's prodigious talent was evident from a young age; by four, he could play forty tunes on the piano, and by five, he began formal piano lessons with his mother. His musical journey took him from his early studies in Pozsony to becoming a distinguished teacher at the Zeneakadémia. Bartók's extensive work in collecting and studying folk music from across Central Europe enriched his compositions, which span orchestral works, string quartets, piano solos, and vocal settings of folk songs. His legacy endures as one of the most significant contributors to classical and neoclassical music, celebrated for his innovative approach and deep cultural roots. Bartók passed away in New York in 1945, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire and enchant audiences worldwide.
