Product description

Nils Mönkemeyer, renowned violist, presents a captivating exploration of Baroque music with his album "Baroque," released on April 13, 2018, under Sony Classical. This exquisite collection of 19 tracks showcases Mönkemeyer's virtuosity and deep connection with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, along with other composers of the era. The album features a rich tapestry of chamber music, with Mönkemeyer's viola taking center stage, accompanied by the delicate resonances of the theorbe and lute, played by Andreas Arend.

The album begins with a suite in F minor for theorbe and lute, setting the stage for a journey through some of Bach's most beloved works. Mönkemeyer's renditions of Bach's suites for viola and theorbe, as well as the solo viola suites, are particularly noteworthy. The album also includes enchanting airs de cour and a beautifully arranged version of Bach's chorale prelude "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland."

Mönkemeyer's performance is marked by a profound understanding of the Baroque style, bringing out the intricate details and expressive nuances of each piece. The album's duration of 1 hour and 13 minutes offers a substantial and immersive listening experience, making it an excellent addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection. Whether you're a seasoned Baroque aficionado or a newcomer to the genre, "Baroque" promises a rewarding and enriching experience.
