Product description

David Friesen's "Bactrian," released on November 20, 2015, under Origin Records, is a captivating solo piano album that showcases the artist's mastery and depth. Comprising eleven tracks, the album spans a full hour, offering a rich and immersive experience from start to finish. Friesen's delicate touch and expressive playing are evident throughout, as he navigates a range of compositions that highlight his unique voice in the world of contemporary jazz and classical piano.

The album opens with "Still Waters," setting a serene and introspective tone, while "Free Play" and "Hoe Down" demonstrate Friesen's versatility and virtuosity. Each track is a testament to his skill, with standout pieces like "Soft as Silk" and "Caravan" showcasing his ability to evoke a sense of tranquility and nostalgia. The album's title track, "The Bactrian," is a particularly noteworthy piece, featuring a medley that reflects both a search for what's missing and a contentment with what's been found.

Recorded and mixed by Stephan Van Wylick at Fattoria Musica in Osnabruck, Germany, "Bactrian" benefits from a pristine production that allows Friesen's playing to shine. The collaboration with Glen Moore, who also appears on the album, adds an extra layer of depth and richness to the overall sound. Whether you're a longtime fan of David Friesen or a newcomer to his work, "Bactrian" is an album that promises to engage and inspire, with its blend of technical prowess and heartfelt expression.
