Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with Pau Casals' remarkable album, "Bach, Beethoven, Mozart & Schumann." Released on January 1, 1959, this album is a testament to Casals' virtuosity and his deep connection with the composers featured. Spanning a generous duration of 2 hours and 29 minutes, this collection is a comprehensive journey through the masterpieces of these iconic composers.

The album opens with Bach's Suite pour violoncelle No. 3 in C Major, BWV 1009, showcasing Casals' exceptional skill on the cello. The suite's intricate movements, from the Prélude to the Gigue, are performed with a precision and passion that bring Bach's compositions to life. Casals then transitions seamlessly into Beethoven's Trio "des Esprits" No. 1 in D Major, Op. 70, and Schumann's Variations pour violoncelle & piano in F Major sur "Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen", Op. 66, demonstrating his versatility and mastery of different styles.

The album also features Mozart's Concerto pour piano No. 27 in B-Flat Major, K. 595, and the enchanting Ch'io mi scordi di te in E-Flat Major, K. 505. Casals' interpretation of these works is both sensitive and powerful, capturing the essence of Mozart's genius. The inclusion of a Prélude pour piano adds a touch of serenity to the collection, providing a moment of reflection amidst the more dynamic pieces.

Pau Casals' "Bach, Beethoven, Mozart & Schumann" is not just an album; it's a celebration of classical music's rich heritage. Whether you're a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a captivating exploration of some of the most beloved compositions in history. Experience the brilliance of Pau Casals and the timeless beauty of these classical masterpieces.

About Pablo Casals

Pablo Casals, born Pau Casals i Defilló, was a Spanish and Puerto Rican cellist, composer, and conductor renowned for his profound musicality and humanitarian spirit. Born in Catalonia in 1876, Casals is celebrated for his groundbreaking recordings of Bach's Cello Suites, which set a benchmark for future cellists. His artistry extended beyond solo performances, encompassing chamber and orchestral music, and he was also a respected conductor. Casals' commitment to social causes was as notable as his musical prowess; he was known to say, "I am a man first, an artist second," reflecting his deep concern for the welfare of others. Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1963, Casals' legacy endures through his timeless recordings and his enduring influence on classical music. His cello arrangement, composed after leaving Spain in protest against Franco's dictatorship, became a signature piece in his concerts, embodying his artistic and political convictions. Thomas Mann once wrote of Casals, "For me his existence is a source of joy. He is one of those artists who come to the rescue of humanity's honour."
