About Daniel Auber

Daniel-François-Esprit Auber, born in Caen, Normandy, in 1782, was a prominent French composer renowned for his significant contributions to the opera genre. Auber's musical journey began at a young age, showcasing his talent on the keyboard and composing his first string quartet by 1799. Throughout his career, he crafted numerous operas that captivated audiences, with notable works including "La Muette de Portici" (1828) and "Fra Diavolo" (1830). Auber's compositions were celebrated for their uniquely French character and melodic charm, earning him a reputation as one of the most successful opera composers of his time. Beyond his composing prowess, Auber also served as the director of the prestigious Paris Conservatoire, further cementing his influence in the music world. His legacy endures, making him a beloved figure in classical music history.
