About Izumi Kimura

Izumi Kimura is a versatile Japanese pianist, improviser, and educator who has made Ireland her home. Born in Yokohama in 1973, Kimura has carved out a unique niche in the music world, blending classical piano with the free-spirited expressions of free jazz. Her work is a testament to her ability to navigate the delicate balance between abstract and concrete sounds, making her performances a captivating experience for any audience.

Kimura's extensive performances throughout Ireland and abroad have earned her critical acclaim, particularly her improvisation-based projects with notable musicians like double bassist Barry Guy and percussionist Gerry Hemingway. Her latest album, "How the Dust Falls," released in 2025, showcases her dynamic range and innovative approach to music.
