Assembly - Theatre Of Tragedy

Product description

Theatre of Tragedy, the Norwegian gothic metal pioneers, present their sixth studio album, "Assembly," released on April 13, 2002, under AFM Records. This captivating collection of tracks blends the dark allure of gothic metal with the grandeur of symphonic and doom metal, along with the haunting essence of gothic rock. "Assembly" is a 46-minute journey through a sonic landscape that has become a hallmark of Theatre of Tragedy's signature sound.

The album opens with the remastered "Automatic Lover," setting the tone for the atmospheric and melodic journey that follows. Tracks like "Universal Race" and "Episode" showcase the band's knack for crafting intricate, layered compositions that are both powerful and ethereal. The bonus track "You Keep Me Hangin' On" adds a touch of familiarity with its iconic melody, reimagined through Theatre of Tragedy's distinctive lens.

"Assembly" is a testament to the band's evolution, featuring the haunting vocals of Liv Kristine, which intertwine seamlessly with the heavy, melodic riffs and symphonic elements. Songs like "Starlit" and "Envision" highlight the band's ability to create a sense of drama and intensity, while tracks like "Liquid Man" and "Motion" bring a dynamic energy that keeps the listener engaged.

For fans of Theatre of Tragedy and enthusiasts of gothic and symphonic metal, "Assembly" is a compelling addition to their discography. The album's remastered tracks ensure that the sound is as crisp and powerful as ever, making it a worthy addition to any metal collection.

This 2020 Limited Edition Reissue Remastered LP is pressed on Black vinyl.

Universal Race is at least a fantastic track, but the rest of the album's...meh. Not feeling the robotic vocal style of the singer.

I'm not entirely sure what made me purchase this CD when it first came out. I wasn't acquainted with the band and assumed they were still playing goth or doom metal, as they did in their early days. What a pleasant shock it was from the very first moments of listening, as my ears were immediately drawn to the potent and infectious blend of electronics, guitars, and fantastic melodies. While there's a significant pop influence in these tracks, they retain a level of aggression and pace that sets them apart from typical synthpop. Give it a listen if you're a fan of electro-rock fusion, as "Assembly" remains one of the finest examples in the genre. This also marked the band's final album with original vocalist Liv Kristine, who later embarked on a thriving solo career.

I'm not entirely sure what made me purchase this CD upon its release. I wasn't acquainted with the band and assumed they were still playing goth or doom metal, as they did in their earlier days. Boy, was I in for a shock from the very first moments of listening! My ears were instantly hooked by the potent and infectious blend of electronics, guitars, and fantastic melodies. While there's a definite pop influence in these tracks, they also retain a level of aggression and pace that elevates them beyond typical synthpop. Give it a listen if you're a fan of electro-rock fusion, as "Assembly" remains one of the finest examples around. This also marked the band's final album with original vocalist Liv Kristine, who later embarked on a thriving solo career.
