Product description

Immerse yourself in the rich, intricate compositions of Béla Bartók with the release of "Ančerl Gold Edition 26. Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra, Viola Concerto." This album, set to release on September 29, 2023, under the Supraphon label, is a masterful blend of classical and neoclassical genres, showcasing Bartók's unparalleled genius. Spanning just under an hour, the album features two of Bartók's most celebrated works: the Concerto for Orchestra and the Viola Concerto, both performed with exquisite precision by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Karel Ančerl.

The Concerto for Orchestra, Sz. 116, is a symphonic tour de force divided into five movements, each offering a unique exploration of orchestral colors and textures. From the contemplative "Introduzione" to the lively "Finale," Bartók's compositional brilliance shines through, capturing the essence of his innovative spirit. Following this is the Viola Concerto, Sz. 120, a deeply expressive work that highlights the viola's lyrical and dramatic capabilities. The three movements of this concerto, from the serene "Moderato" to the energetic "Allegro vivace," showcase Bartók's ability to blend technical virtuosity with profound emotional depth.

Born in Nagyszentmiklós, Austria-Hungary (now Sânnicolau Mare, Romania), Béla Bartók was a prodigy on the piano and a pioneer in the world of classical music. His works, deeply rooted in folk traditions and modernist innovations, continue to captivate audiences worldwide. This album is a testament to his enduring legacy, offering a glimpse into the mind of a composer who pushed the boundaries of musical expression.

Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to Bartók's oeuvre, this album promises a rewarding listening experience. The meticulous performances by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, coupled with Karel Ančerl's insightful conducting, bring Bartók's compositions to life with clarity and passion. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the timeless beauty of Béla Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra and Viola Concerto in this exceptional release.

About Béla Bartók

Béla Bartók, born in 1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, Hungary, was a towering figure in 20th-century music, renowned as a composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. His deep connection to Hungarian and Central European folk music infused his compositions with a unique and captivating flavor, making him one of Hungary's greatest composers alongside Franz Liszt. Bartók's prodigious talent was evident from a young age; by four, he could play forty tunes on the piano, and by five, he began formal piano lessons with his mother. His musical journey took him from his early studies in Pozsony to becoming a distinguished teacher at the Zeneakadémia. Bartók's extensive work in collecting and studying folk music from across Central Europe enriched his compositions, which span orchestral works, string quartets, piano solos, and vocal settings of folk songs. His legacy endures as one of the most significant contributors to classical and neoclassical music, celebrated for his innovative approach and deep cultural roots. Bartók passed away in New York in 1945, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire and enchant audiences worldwide.
