Product description

Erica Morini's "An Italian Baroque Violin Recital" is a captivating journey through the rich tapestry of Italian Baroque music, released in 1965 under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label. This 41-minute album showcases Morini's virtuosity and deep connection with the violin, accompanied by Leon Pommers. The collection features works by renowned composers such as Antonio Vivaldi, Giuseppe Tartini, Domenico Gallo, and Pietro Nardini, offering a diverse and enchanting exploration of the Baroque period.

The album begins with Vivaldi's Violin Sonata in D Major, RV 10, a piece that highlights Morini's technical prowess and expressive range. The sonata's four movements, from the lively Allegro to the serene Adagio, demonstrate Morini's ability to convey a wide spectrum of emotions through her playing. The Violin Sonata in G Minor, B. g10 "Didone abbandonata," adds a dramatic flair with its Affettuoso and Presto movements, showcasing Morini's dynamic control and emotional depth.

Morini's interpretations of works by Nardini, Tartini, and Pergolesi further enrich the album, each piece revealing her nuanced understanding of Baroque style and form. The Sonata No. 1 in G Major and Violin Sonata No. 2 in D Major by Nardini are particularly noteworthy, with Morini's delicate phrasing and precise articulation bringing these compositions to life.

"An Italian Baroque Violin Recital" is a testament to Erica Morini's artistry and her ability to breathe new life into classical masterpieces. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a compelling and enjoyable listening experience.

About Erica Morini

Erica Morini, born in Vienna in 1904, was a prodigious talent who captivated audiences with her enchanting violin performances throughout the 20th century. A true child prodigy, Morini made her debut at the tender age of five, playing for Emperor Franz Joseph, who was so impressed that he gifted her a life-sized doll. Her musical journey was marked by exceptional mentorship under the renowned Otakar Ševčík, and by 1924, she was already a seasoned performer, playing a $10,000 Stradivarius violin purchased by her father. Morini's career spanned continents, from her early days in Austria to her later years in the United States, where she became one of the most celebrated female concert violinists of her time. Her legacy endures, remembered fondly by critics and admirers alike for her bewitching stage presence and virtuosic skill. Morini passed away in New York City in 1995, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire.
