Product description

Dive into the world of cool jazz with Al Cohn's "Al Cohn Featuring Bob Brookmeyer," a 2000 release on the CoolNote label. This 40-minute album is a masterclass in jazz, blending elements of cool jazz, hard bop, and bebop to create a rich and engaging listening experience. Al Cohn, a renowned saxophonist, teams up with the brilliant valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer to deliver a set of tracks that showcase their exceptional chemistry and musical prowess.

The album opens with a lively rendition of "The Lady Is A Tramp," followed by the upbeat "Good Spirits" and the sultry "A Blues Serenade." Each track is a testament to the musicians' ability to convey a range of emotions and moods, from the playful "Lazy Man Stomp" to the introspective "Winter." The album also includes standout tracks like "Ill Wind," "Chloe," and "So Far So Good," each offering a unique blend of melody and improvisation.

Al Cohn's warm, resonant tenor saxophone is a highlight throughout, complementing Brookmeyer's rich, velvety trombone tones. Their interplay is a joy to behold, making this album a standout in the jazz genre. Whether you're a longtime fan of Al Cohn or new to his music, "Al Cohn Featuring Bob Brookmeyer" is an essential addition to any jazz collection.

About Al Cohn

Al Cohn, born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1925, was a renowned jazz saxophonist, arranger, and composer whose career spanned over four decades. He rose to fame in the 1940s as a member of Woody Herman's Second Herd, where he was part of the celebrated "Four Brothers" saxophone section. Cohn's smooth tenor saxophone style and impeccable arrangements made him a standout figure in the cool jazz and hard bop genres. Throughout his career, he performed with legendary bands led by Henry Jerome, Joe Marsala, Georgie Auld, Alvino Rey, and Buddy Rich, among others.
