Product description

"A Spanner in the Works" is Rod Stewart's seventeenth studio album, released on May 26, 1995, under Warner Records. This soft rock gem marks a return to form for the legendary artist, blending his signature soulful vocals with a mix of original tracks and covers from notable artists like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and The Blue Nile. The album spans 12 tracks and 57 minutes, offering a rich tapestry of sounds that showcase Stewart's versatility and enduring talent.

Produced with a clever touch, the album features a blend of acoustic guitars, subtle synth backing, and restrained backing vocals, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Standout tracks like "Windy Town," "The Downtown Lights," and "Leave Virginia Alone" highlight Stewart's knack for crafting memorable melodies and heartfelt lyrics. The album also includes a cover of The Blue Nile's "Soothe Me," adding a touch of sophistication to the collection.

With its mix of original compositions and well-chosen covers, "A Spanner in the Works" is a testament to Rod Stewart's enduring appeal and his ability to reinvent himself while staying true to his roots. Whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer to his music, this album offers a delightful journey through the world of soft rock and beyond.

This LP was released in 1995.

  • Rod's Nostalgic Love Album

This album sounds amazing and features several incredible tracks. Perhaps there are a few too many songs, but I've always been a Rod Stewart fan and this one brings back some wonderful memories. I still recall the diner where I was having breakfast when I first heard "This" on the radio and immediately had to buy the CD. It's such a gorgeous love song. Rod delivers a flawless rendition of Tom Petty's "Leave Virginia Alone," which, as far as I remember, was an extra track from 'Wildflowers'. "The Downtown Lights" follows a year after Annie Lennox's fantastic version on 'Medusa'. It's not a contest, but hers definitely outshines Rod's.

This album sounds incredible with several amazing tracks. Perhaps there are a few too many songs, but I've always been a fan of Rod Stewart and this one brings back some wonderful memories. I still recall the diner where I was having breakfast when I first heard "That" on the radio and had to buy the CD. It's such a gorgeous love song. Rod delivers a flawless rendition of Tom Petty's "Don't Leave Virginia Alone" which, as far as I remember, was an extra track from 'Wildflowers'. "The Downtown Lights" follows a year after Annie Lennox's fantastic version on 'Medusa'. It's not a contest, but hers outshines Rod's.
